The search for missing big-wave surfer Alec “Ace Cool” Cooke has been suspended as of Saturday October 31st, 2015. Cooke went missing last Tuesday on the North Shore of Oahu and was last seen surfing a 20-25 ft swell at Waimea Bay around 6:30pm. Alec Cooke was known as the “Evil Knievel” of big wave surfing, often daring to surf massive waves at night by himself, with nothing but a glow stick attached to his back. Friends and family were shocked by his disappearance, as he seemed to always defy the odds.
Cooke’s girlfriend reported him missing Wednesday morning when he did not return home from his night surf session. The coast guards quickly responded by searching almost 9,000 square miles of Pacific Ocean for the missing surfer, exhausting their resources using airplanes, helicopters, and even jet skis. Unfortunately, the only thing that turned up was Cooke’s surfboard Thursday morning near the Waimea river.
