Urban Surf 4 Kids is a non-profit organization based out of San Diego, California that provides surf and serve trips for foster and orphan youth. A select group of youth from the “Children of the Promise” orphanage in Tijuana, México, has spent the last two months achieving various goals to earn an opportunity to surf in warm water.
Urban Surf 4 Kids is now planning for their upcoming trip from Tijuana to Cabo in less than 3 weeks. The youth will be hosting a surf camp for orphans in the Cabo area.
“It’s full circle, all about planting the seed of giving,” says founder Wesley Stewart. “Our goal is to leverage a cool opportunity like a vacation, with the hopes of planting a seed of service amongst these kids.”
Joining them on this trip is former American Idol finalist Elliot Yamin.
“I had the chance to sing at their Paddle Fest event last year and was totally digging what these guys are doing!” said Yamin.
Urban Surf 4 Kids last year hosted “Dreaming of Aloha” in which 11 foster youth from Southern California earned a trip to Oahu during the Billabong Pipe Masters. The youth had the chance to hang with the pros, including Kelly Slater and Alana Blanchard, while enjoying a VIP dinner at the Eddie Aikau opening ceremonies. Now that’s the way to do Hawai’i!
Fast approaching is the “So Cali Dreaming” event. This event happens June 25th-29th; Urban Surf 4 Kids is hosting foster youth from the state of Nevada. The trip features private wave riding at the Wave House in Mission Beach, a private sailing charter through San Diego Sailing Tours, SUP camp provided by YOLO, surf camp with a concert from Cody Lovaas , with a sunset surf The Legend of Eddie Aikau, and finally a community service event feeding the homeless in downtown San Diego.
The concert and movie night is open to the public.
