We wish it was an April Fool’s joke. On the evening of April 1st, an 8.2 earthquake struck Chile near the northern port city of Iquique. Tsunami warnings have been issued to the following regions: Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Nicaragua, Panama and Costa Rica. Authorities are advising coastal residents to evacuate for possible dangers due to tsunami.
CNN reported that waves of 6ft+ in height reached the coast of Pisagua, Chile, but no damage has yet been reported. The tsunami threat in Hawaii is still being evaluated according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
