If you consider surfing more than just a sport, you’re likely willing to travel to the farthest, most remote corners of the Earth to score waves. While it might not be necessary to travel that far, there are epic spots both domestic and international that are renowned for their perfect surf and gorgeous beaches. We can all use a change of scenery from time to time, so here are some places to consider for your next surf trip.
The Surf Channel presents 5 destinations every surfer must visit:
Bet you knew this one would be at the top of the list, huh? Not to be redundant, but there’s a reason that Hawai’i is known as the land where surf legends are made. Not only is it the birthplace of the sport, the beautiful tropical landscape is bordered by deep sea waters with an endless supply of waves ranging from playful, shore lapping froth to monstrous 80-foot swells, depending on your location and time of year.
The Hawaiian island chain has such deep roots and respect for surfing as a lifestyle, that it is inundated with surfers from around the world, so you won’t have to look very far to find a board shop if you need some new gear, or larger surfboard shaped by a local shaper. Whether you land in Maui, Oahu, Kauai or the Big Island, there’s no going wrong. Pay respect to the locals if you want to catch waves, leaving Hawai’i more beautiful on your way out than when you found it. And good luck leaving… it’s easy to get stuck in paradise.
