Meet Eugene Tollemache, a classic character running a “Pommie” pirate boat in Northern Sumatra as a surf charter. “Pommie” is an acronym Australians use for the English, “Prisoners of Mother England.” Eugene is a former pro UK surfer and his passion for surfing has him chasing perfect waves aboard the surf charter, Jiwa. He swoops in to remote spots for epic sessions like a plundering pirate and is always hunting for swell.
Northern Sumatra is a long way from his lush hometown of Devon, England, but he loves living there. Not many people follow their passion, but in the middle of the Indian Ocean, Eugene is a surfer who is forgoing many modern conveniences to live the dream.
