Just 100 meters out in the lineup at Riecks Point near Coffs Harbour, 19-year-old Zac Young was killed by an 8ft tiger shark in northern New South Wales. According to Huffington Post, the young beach-goer was bodyboarding with friends when he was attacked. Despite help from bystanders, friends and paramedics, Young was pronounced dead due to cardiac arrest from bleeding out of severe leg wounds.
Beaches in the area were closed for 24 hours. Young’s death marks the second fatal shark attack this month.
Friends and loved ones held a paddle out in celebration of Young’s life on Sunday at Town Beach in Port Macquarie. As much as 400 surfers and bodyboarders, made an appearance to pay tribute to the young surfer.
