“Big Monday” documents a giant big wave session in Nazaré, Portugal, filmed on October 28th, 2013. A skilled group of big wave athletes entered the 60 ft+ swell that hit the small fishing town, internationally known for Garrett McNamara’s 100ft bomb this year – a World Record for largest wave ever surfed. Led by McNamara’s expertise, the Big Monday tow-in crew included: Maya Gabeira, Carlos Burle, Andrew Cotton, Sylvio Mancusi, Rodrigo Koxa, Felipe Cesarano, Hugo Vau, Eric Rebiere and Pedro Scooby.
Check out this heart-pounding edit of a mean swell with some hardcore athletes taking on what most people only see in their nightmares.
Despite a frightening near-death experience for Gabeira, the 26-year-old female big wave surfer earned her Billabong XXL Big Wave Awards 2013 ‘Ride of the Year‘ entry on a giant, turbulent wave at Nazaré. CLICK TO WATCH MAYA’S WIPEOUT!
