The week long Nixon Surf Challenge held in Iceland started May 13th, just below the Arctic Circle. Carefully selected surfers from all around the world adventured through the volcanic island, while surfing relatively deserted breaks. In association with Monster Energy, Dragon, and Reef, the Nixon Surf Challenge emphasizes freesurfing style in a relaxed atmosphere. The riders themselves decided who won.
France’s Vincent Duvignac was voted best overall. Despite freezing temperatures, Duvignac had consistently impressive style. Australia’s Chippa Wilson took home the Best Trick award. The last award, the “I-Rocked-Iceland'” prize, was claimed by Canary Islands’ Jose Maria Cabrera. His continuously positive energy throughout the trip, despite harsh conditions, made him a favorite among the group. With a cold but stunning backdrop, the ten selected riders explore Iceland and discover some world-class waves.
