The second annual ASP 4-Star Surf Open Acapulco is confirmed to take place from July 2-7 2013 in one of Mexico many epic beachbreaks, Playa Revolcadero. The event marks the second of the four events to occur between the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central America, further establishing Latin America in the North America ASP series.
Matt Wilson, Senior VP of Events and Regions broke the news saying, “we are pleased to announce the return of the Surf Open Acapulco. The development of events in Central American and Caribbean regions has been a major focus for the ASP North America in the last few years. The return of Surf Open Acapulco, in association with the addition of events in Cabo, Puerto Rico and the upgrade of El Salvador to a 6 star, are all key measures of our development plan and importantly, provide increase opportunity for surfers throughout the region to compete on the ASP World Tour.”
The Surf Open Acapulco 4-star status provides up and coming talents to showcase their moves on the water and establish themselves on a global scale by gaining points to compete in regarded ASP 6-star and prime rated competitions. Defending champion of last years Surf Open Acapulco, Tanner Hendrickson, taking major steps in his professional career, notes the importance of this competition to aspiring talents. “Winning Acapulco last year was a dream come true. I can’t wait to get back there and compete in the event. Getting my first pro win has given me confidence in my surfing. As far as where it has taken my career, I’m still pushing my hardest to get on tour. I hope to be there soon, that’s my real dream.”
