Explore the world’s top surf destinations in “LOCAL STYLE,” a new original series on The Surf Channel featuring the premiere waves in Bali, Indonesia as the first of several eco travel destinations. Produced and directed by journalist, NamHee Han, and hosted by lifelong waterman and surfer Mike Rodger, LOCAL STYLE hunts down the world’s top destinations for surfers on a mission to travel to remote waves and experience the culture back on the sand.
Some of Indonesia’s most amazing waves are in the Mentawai Islands. Not only did we find great waves there, but we also found Beeker. Beeker is a rare, snub-nosed, pig tailed monkey endemic to the Islands. When you live on a small desolate inland in the Mentawais, it helps to have some companions. For John and Ainsley Ocean, they decided to adopt this monkey when it was orphaned. She’s part of the family at Togat Nusa, a surf retreat in the Mentawais. As LOCAL STYLE‘s Mike Rodger discovers, Beeker isn’t any ordinary monkey; she’s a very special one…. ready to check the surf.
