The Vans Triple Crown of Surfing hydrated by Vitamin Water kicks off the week of November 12th as the first stop hits Haleiwa Ali’I Beach Park for the Reef Hawaiian Pro. The waiting period will last until November 24th as officials and athletes eagerly search for the best four days of swell to hold the competition. The Vans Triple Crown of Surfing offers $1,000,000 in prize money and will consist of three important competitions to decide who will be this winter’s Triple Crown champion. Can John Florence hold on to his title as King of the North Shore?
“There’s a good chance that we will take advantage of a small swell on offer right off the bat on Monday so that we can get the first round under our belt,” said Vans Triple Crown Executive Director Randy Rarick, “as better conditions are expected later next week and towards the end of the Reef Hawaiian Pro period. Haleiwa is a high performance wave regardless of its size, and it’s the perfect stage for launching our 2012 Hawaiian Air Show that will showcase all of the technical and progressive aerial maneuvers of leading athletes, like John Florence (HAW), Dane Reynolds (USA), Gabriel Medina (BRA), Josh Kerr (AUS), and last year’s Air Show winner – Nat Young (USA).”
Not only does the event offer an unheard of amount of money, the Hawaiian Air Show will also offer 250,000 Hawaiian Airlines Miles to the surfer who completes the most progressive maneuver during the 6 weeks of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.
This Winter will be one of the most competitive years of the Vans Triple Crown seeing that they will be celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the event, including a $100,000 bonus to the series champion in addition to the record prize purse.
Hawaii will aslo be the determining finale for the 2012 ASP World Championship title at the last Tour stop at the Billabong Pipe Masters. The race will be between Joel Parkinson (AUS), Kelly Slater (USA) and Mick Fanning (AUS).
The Reef Hawaiian Pro will be partnering with a foam drive during the event this year called, “Waste to Waves.” In addition, Tom Curren, Mark Occhilupo, Sunny Garcia and Kaipo Jaquias will battle in the Reef “Clash of the Legends.”
