On Day 8 of the Vans US Open of Surfing, the celebrated Van Doren Invitational skate contest brought unprecedented talent to the finals, only to crown the unstoppable Raven Tershy as the champion, earning the $25,000 grand prize and custom-designed Fender guitar.
Joining Tershy on the podium was Charlie Blair in second for $15,000 and Murilo Peres in third claiming a $10,000 check.
And for the ladies… The annual Van Doren Invitational Women’s Contest at the Vans US Open wrapped up with a packed house supporting women’s skateboarding. Reigning champion and Vans team rider Lizzie Armanto defends her title, taking home 1st place and a cool $5,000. Rounding out the podium was 13-year old ripper Alana Smith in 2nd place and OC local Julz Lynn in 3rd. The top 6 women’s placers included last year’s standouts including Alyssha Bergado and Nora Vasconcellos, and introduced new competitor Kisa Nakamura, who flew all the way from Japan to compete.
