Casey Patterson and Jake Gibb came from Huntington Beach to do one thing – dominate the courts of Atlantic City. These charismatic stars of the sand traveled to New Jersey for the DO AC Pro Beach Volleyball Invitational, the latest tour stop on the Association of Volleyball Professionals circuit hosted by IMG Worldwide. Not only did they win the title and $13,000, they had fun while doing it. Not to mention, this is their second straight AVP win. These two are bringing the stoke back to beach volleyball.
The Surf Channel wanted to ask the winners how they were feeling after the final match. In order to do so, we had to cut a long line of fans waiting for an autograph and photo with the celebs.
“Buzz kill,” Casey Patterson joked, calling us out. His signature mohawk styled by Paul Mitchell reflects his desire to to express himself freely on and off the court, something volleyball deeply appreciates, rooted in the sport itself.
“We are totally stoked for the win – that’s the perfect word to describe it,” Patterson explained after winning the DO AC Pro today.
“That’s the first time we’ve beaten Phil Dalhausser and Sean Rosenthal in a final, so it’s awesome,” team partner Jake Gibb added. “We have a rivalry going with them, so it’s a sweet win… I had heard about Atlantic City, but this is my first time out here. I love it.”
“This is the first time AVP is out in Jersey, and the East Coast is cool. It’s fun to come out here from California for the event,” Patterson stated. “We’re from Huntington, so we’re all about surf culture.
“The surf industry and beach volleyball can definitely help eachother out. We’re both all about being active at the beach, kind of like brother and sister sports in similar worlds. We both surfed all the time in high school… We dig The Surf Channel, and we’re stoked to win a match here at the AVP finals.”
