There are very few sportsmen who dominate at every level of their chosen sport; Mick Fanning and Andrew “Joey” Johns are two of these rare commodities. From similar humble beginnings in NSW, Mick Fanning rose through the ranks to become arguably the greatest Australian surfer of all time, winning three world championships along with numerous WSL tour events around the world. “White Lightening” as he is known, famously survived a great white shark attack as he competed in the J Bay Open Final in 2015 live on television. Mick has also won the Australian Male Surfer of the year award an incredible 6 times, along with an Order of Australia Medal for his work in professional surfing and charity.
Andrew “Joey” Johns captured every award imaginable over his illustrious rugby league career. Winning two NRL premierships with his beloved Newcastle Knights. Along with leading NSW to numerous State of Origin victories as well as starring for the Australian Kangaroo’s in World Cup triumphs.
Some of his awards include, 3 Dally M awards as the best player in the game that season (1998,1999,2002), twice awarded the Golden Boot award as the worlds best player (1999,2001), along with the Clive Churchill award as man of the match in the 2001 NRL Grand Final.
In 2002 Johns was named the 8th Rugby League Immortal, a truly remarkable accomplishment.
“Sharing the story of our lives and careers on stage at The Star Gold Coast is a night I am very much looking forward to! We will also be having plenty of laughs together I can assure you of that!” said Johns.
“I am very excited to join my great mate Joey Johns live on stage at The Star Gold Coast, sharing some stories about my life in and out of the water”, said Fanning.
Director of Major Events Adam Wilcox highlights this is a chance to get a raw insight as Mick Fanning and Joey Johns take the audience through their journey, reliving the greatest highs and challenging moments of their respective lives and careers.
