The next leg of the WSL Tour is Margaret River in Western Australia! As fans and competitors eagerly await the start of this event, we reflect on some rather life changing events that have already happened this season.
At the 2018 Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach, Mick Fanning surfed his last WSL event EVER. Finishing in a grand 2nd place in a nerve wracking final. The majority of fans and friends hoped to see Mick dominate the Bells Beach event, as he has many many times in the past. However, Brazilian Italo Ferreira wasn’t going down without a fight. Mick might have gotten second but his character and ambition shined in the water. He has always been an incredible athlete, winning 3x world titles in his career, and winning over the hearts of… the world quite honestly.
Going into the 3rd event of the 2018 season won’t be the same without Mick. But we lost Kelly Slater too!? Kelly announced that he will not be competing in the Margaret River Pro this year to rest up his injured foot from the gruesome bail during his free surf at Jeffery’s Bay last year. With his foot still on the mend, we expect to see Kelly to dominate the events his body can handle.
