PRESS RELEASE
PISMO BEACH PIER, Pismo Beach, California/USA (Sunday, November 19, 2017) – Finals of the World Surf League (WSL) Men’s Qualifying Series (QS) Pismo Beach Open QS1,000 presented by Dignity Health has been called ON for 7:30 a.m. PDT start. Continued small swell offers two, occasional plus, foot swell for competitors to vie for the inaugural win at Pismo Beach. The North America QS Regional Champion will also be crowned by day’s end with a few surfers on hand to claim the title.
“It’s an exciting day for everyone here with the first-ever winner of Pismo and our Regional Title on the line,” North America Tour Manager Brian Robbins said. “We’re getting started at 7:30 a.m. this morning since we had to stop early yesterday and there’s still some opportunity out there with the higher tide. It should be a great day to close out the event and also our regional schedule so we’re looking forward to another big day. Good luck to all our competitors.”
Up-and-coming talent Taro Watanabe (USA) kicks off the action against Gabriel Morvil (USA), Jeremy Carter (USA) and Taylor Clark (USA) in Round Four Heat 1.
Round Four Heat 2 will have Hawaiian Ian Gentil (HAW) take on 15-year-old upstart Kade Matson (USA), Costa Rican Anthony Fillingim (USA) and an in-form Elijah Fox (HAW).
A stacked Round Four Heat 3 features defending North America QS Regional Champion Kilian Garland (USA) pitted against former Championship Tour (CT) competitor Nathaniel Curran (USA), along with QS veteran Cory Arrambide (USA) and Brazilian Pedro Todaro (BRA).
Round Four action wraps as Cole Houshmand (USA) will face Ben Coffey (USA), current North America. No. 3 Jordy Collins (USA) and Derek Peters (USA).
