Professional Australian surfer Alex Hayes posted a selfie on his Instagram profile a couple days ago (right around shark week when the internet world is constantly searching for viral shark content). His selfie included himself, a paddle board, and a massive great white shark lurking in the background. What an accessory for a perfect viral photo!
His caption read “So… I went for a paddle out front, decided to stop have a rest and then saw this bad boy, at first I freaked and then I saw that he was a chiller and just cruisin’, luckily I brought my #gopro otherwise no one would’ve believed me… changes my perspective about sharks they aren’t all dangerous!”
The photo accumulated a lot of attention and after further analysis, it was decided that Alex actually photoshopped a commonly used photo on Google of a great white shark in the water behind him. This speculation has been neither confirmed nor denied, however after news outlets and other media sources got their hands on this story, the surfer deleted the photo from his instagram all together.
Unfortunately for Alex, his photo and caption were screenshotted and blasted all over the internet before he could wipe his hands clean of all evidence.
