Only two years prior, America watched Mick Fanning fight for his life in these very waters at the J-Bay Pro. So this scare was all too real for everyone involved, therefore competition officials taking necessary precautions, and hoping the water will be safe to resume the competition in a day or so.
During Round 4 of the Corona J-Bay Pro, a shark was seen visibly breaching the surface of the water about 200 feet from the line up during the surfer’s heat. Competitors are immediately drawn from the water and pulled to safety.
It appears that the threat has put the WSL competition on hold to ensure the safety of the surfers. We are hoping that the sharks in the area will remain peaceful with our surfers, so we can continue the competition safely!
