TAVARUA/NAMOTU, Fiji (Wednesday, May 31, 2017) – After a thrilling opening day at the the Outerknown Fiji Women’s Pro, Stop No. 5 on the 2017 World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT), competition will continue today with Round 4 starting at 7:40 a.m. local time at Cloudbreak in three foot surf.
“Clean conditions this morning and we’ll recommence competition with Round 4,” said WSL Deputy Commissioner, Jessi Miley-Dyer. “Quarters, Semis and the Final are on standby for today as well. We’ll closely monitor the conditions and make sure we run in the best surf available. Good luck to everyone today.”
Jeep frontrunners reigning WSL Champion Tyler Wright (AUS) and 6X WSL Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) will both surf today in Round 4 and battle for their place in the Quarterfinals.
Wright will match-up with dangerous wildcard Bethany Hamilton (HAW) in Heat 2 while Gilmore will face Tatiana Weston-Webb (HAW) in Heat 3.
Wright and Gilmore are followed closely on the rankings by two-time Fiji Pro winner Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS) and defending event champion Johanne Defay (FRA), who have both secured their place in the Quarterfinals with Round 3 victories yesterday alongside 3X WSL Champion Carissa Moore (HAW) and Day 1 standout Sage Erickson (USA).
The first heat of the day will be an all-Californian affair with Courtney Conlogue (USA) and Lakey Peterson (USA) going head-to-head in Round 4 Heat 1.

The SW swell that filled in today with fun size and decent consistency will ease on Wednesday. We’ll look for the largest surf early on the lower/incoming tide, with a slow decreasing trend through the day. The swell/surf is expected to trend down further through the end of the work week.
