Finatic is being called the “Netflix for fins” and the comparison isn’t too much of a stretch. Netflix lets you dabble with different TV shows without having to make a full commitment in buying a DVD box set. For example, would I really like a TV show about a guy who sees his neighbor’s dog as a man in a dog costume? Is this the show for me? (It turns out it is. It really really is.) So when trying to determine what fin is right for me, after the appropriate research, trial and error is a great method. However, $stockpiling$ isn’t always a practical solution. So Finatic developed a better one.
Finatic lets you pick out fins online, the fins are mailed to your door, you use the use the fins for as long as you want, a then return them when you want to try out a new pair. Once you find fins you like, you can purchase them at a Finatic Authorized Partner. So perhaps a better comparison would be OG Netfilx back before streaming. When finatic figures out a way to digitally send you your fins, we’ll let you know. Membership is split up between a basic, premium, and platinum level, each offering their own perks.
Board size, board shape, and wave conditions can all factor into what fins you need. So Finatic has all different types including 5-fins, soft fins, quads, thrusters, etc. If you’re looking to get to the next level with your surfing as well as improve your general knowledge about fins, you may want to check this out. Regardless, with a cool idea, celebrity endorsements, and with CJ Hobgood as a partner, it will be interesting to see how this evolves in the coming years.
