WSL PRESS RELEASE
Bombo Beach Kiama, NSW/AUS (Thursday, January 4, 2017) – Day 1 of competition is underway at the World Surf League (WSL) World Junior Championship, the single event to crown the Junior Women’s and Men’s World Champions. The surf is in the 2-to-3 foot range with light to moderate onshore winds creating some texture on the faces. WSL Deputy commissioner Travis Logie has put Men’s Round 1 in the water first with Women’s Round 1 expected to follow.
“The next couple of days look similar to this but maybe dropping a little to it was a no brainer to get underway today,” Logie said. “The forecast looks similar to today and then drops but the winds get light next week. There is nothing amazing on the forecast but there will still be plenty of fun waves on offer for competitors throughout the window.”
Heat 1 of Men’s Round 1 is in the water now with Brazillian Wessely Dantas taking on Hawaiian’s Logan Bediamol and Noa Mizuno.
The WSL World Junior Championships has been secured for Kiama by the NSW Government, through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW. The event will run from January 4-13 2017.
