HALEIWA, Oahu/Hawaii – (Saturday, November 12, 2016) — TheWorld Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS) 10,000 event, the Hawaiian Pro, has been called ON this morning at Haleiwa Ali’i Beach with Round One beginning at 8am Hawaii Standard Time. Heats 1 – 16 will finish today along with Heats 1 and 2 of Round Two.
“The waves are looking really fun, 4-6 foot sets and even some bigger ones,” said Deputy Commissioner Travis Logie. “These are probably the most important events of the year and every heat is a career maker or breaker for those trying to get on tour. The Vans Triple Crown is on the line as well, which is such a prestigious event, so I’m excited to see how the competition unfolds. The forecast looks amazing for the whole event.”
David do Carmo (BRA), Mateia Hiquily (PYF), Jamie O’Brien (HAW) and Makuakai Rothman (HAW) will hit the water first in Round One Heat 1. Other top names like Mason Ho (HAW), Bruce Irons (HAW), Billy Kemper (HAW) and Sunny Garcia (HAW) will compete under the Hawaii/Tahiti Nui region today. Kemper claimed the Big Wave Tour (BWT) Pe’ahi Challenge win yesterday on Maui and will compete in Round One Heat 16 against Nathan Hedge (AUS), Kiron Jabour (HAW) and Seth Moniz (HAW).
The WSL Men’s QS10,000 Hawaiian Pro is scheduled from November 12 – 23, 2016 and runs in conjunction with the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing specialty series along the North Shore of Oahu.
