SEIGNOSSE/HOSSEGOR/CAPBRETON, Landes, Nouvelle-Aquitaine / France (Monday, October 10, 2016) – A lay day has been called at the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro France, Stop No.9 on the 2016 Samsung Galaxy World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT).
Competition is OFF for the day with inconsistent 2 – 3 foot (0.6 – 1 metre) surf at the main venue of plage des Culs Nus in Hossegor.
“We came here at 1pm and expected it to have a little bump from this morning because the buoys were showing it, we waited another hour and there’s been some ok waves out there,” Kieren Perrow, WSL Commissioner, said. “But looking at the forecast we’re still confident that Wednesday has potential for a much better finish so we’re not going to be running any heats today and we’ll come back and re-assess tomorrow morning but more than likely it’s going to be a Wednesday finish.”
Keanu Asing (HAW) and John John Florence (HAW) will be first out when the Quiksilver Pro France resumes in Semifinal No.1.
The Roxy Pro France opening semifinal will see Tatiana Weston-Webb (HAW) and Tyler Wright (AUS) matchup when competition resumes.
Event organizers will reconvene at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning to assess conditions and make the next call.
Surfline, official forecasters for the World Surf League (WSL), are calling for:
Smaller but fun, clean surf prevails Monday, trending down through Tuesday. Another fun pulse of WNW swell is looking more and more likely for mid week (Wed-Thur) and wind looks favorable at this time. We’ll continue to watch for a swell at the very end of the waiting period, although the latest trend is to push that swell’s arrival time after the event waiting period has concluded.
The Quiksilver and Roxy Pro France will be webcast LIVE on worldsurfleague.com and via the WSL app.
