Off the coast of Tavarua Island in Fiji, smiles are seen in all directions. But in the water, it was all business for Gabriel Medina during the 2016 Fiji Pro. After losing in the semifinals of the Oi Rio Pro last month, Medina came out firing on all cylinders to claim his second title at the Fiji Pro at Cloudbreak.
The win puts him in second place behind Matt Wilkinson, whom he beat in the finals on the WSL leaderboard. You have to wonder if Wilko will be looking over his shoulder when the two face off at the J-Bay Open next month.
Medina has been building momentum as he has gotten increasingly better at each WSL tour stop so far. With his raw talent and incredible consistency culminating in a Fijian win, he certainly had enough to smile about.
