After the Quiksilver event in memory of Eddie Aikau was postponed two weeks ago, due to unfavorable swell conditions, everyone eagerly awaited the possibility of the event to run sometime at the end of the month. With much excitement, it has been announced that there is a good chance the prestigious big-wave invitational will run February 25th.
The Eddie is a Quiksilver sponsored event that is held at Waimea Bay in honor of Eddie Aikau’s life and bravery as a notable Hawaiian waterman. One of the requirements for the event is that the waves be well over 20 feet with 40 foot faces. The Eddie is currently on ‘yellow alert,’ meaning there is a good possibility this event might actually run this year. Excitement builds, as it has been 7 years since competitors have been able to formally pay their respects to Eddie Aikau and the ocean. Fingers crossed that the invitational will run this Thursday.
