A magic bucket that keeps the ocean clean? This sounds like a hoax right?
Miraculously it’s not! Two Australian ocean conservation advocates quit their day jobs in search for an answer that could permanently clean the ocean. Andrew Turton and Pete Ceglinski came up with the Seabin, which is a bucket that can be installed near any floating harbor and connects to a water pump. The pump then sucks up all of the surrounding trash and excess oil from the ocean, down the shoot, and into the base of the removable catcher. This device essentially works as a water filtration system much like a fish tank filter would.
Over the course of their 4 year testing and prototypes, the buckets have never captured any marine life or disturbed the underwater ecosystem in any way. Turton and Ceglinski claimed that one of their main focus was to build the most sustainable and ecologically responsible way they can.
Now I’m sure I know what you are thinking… how has nobody thought of this simple solution before? We were wondering the same thing! Whatever the case may be, we are just grateful the Seabin technology is currently in action and progressing on a much larger scale.
