It’s been a wild ride on the North Shore of Oahu today. The waves at Pipeline have been less than average, but that isn’t stopping the world’s best surfers from making something out of nothing.
The Triple Crown champ came down to the semi finals in the Billabong Pipe Masters. Gabriel Medina was matched up against Mick Fanning, who was simultaneously running for the world title at that time. Mick Fanning was leading the heat and sitting with priority, until at the last second, Gabriel put up a big score on a small wave. Medina threw a massive air and was awarded 6.5, taking the lead. The crowd, announcers, and surfers sat in silence for the next 2 minutes waiting for the waves to produce a set for Mick to answer back. The dramatic event unfolded with Gabriel ultimately taking the win. Congratulations Gabriel Medina on the win!
