Today will go down in history as the world’s first ever back-to-back Brazilian world title wins. With Gabriel Medina’s title win in 2014, and now Adriano De Souza claiming his first-ever world title win in 2015.
It all came down to the semifinals at the Billabong Pipe Masters with De Souza matched against Mason Ho. The winds picked up creating unfavorable conditions and unpredictable barrels but the surfers battled throughout the entire heat, trying to make the most out of every wave. Both competitors put on amazing performances, but De Souza ultimately took the win.
Adriano De Souza started from a humble beginning, with the lifelong dream to one day earn a world title. Fortunately, with hard work and dedication, that day has finally come. De Souza gave a heart-warming dedication to Ricardo De Santos, who contributes to Adriano’s ritualistic slap of his tattooed bicep after every win. The tattoo sports the phrase ‘strength, balance and love’, which has had a huge impact on his life. He also dedicated his world title win to his brother for buying him his first $7.00 surfboard. Adriano De Souza’s race for the title against Mick Fanning will go in history as one of the most memorable and emotional title races in the world. Congratulations to the Adriano De Souza on the first world title win!
To put a cherry on top of an already memorable day, after De Souza’s world title win, he jumped back in the water for the Billabong Pipe Master finals and came out with the win.
