Meet surf photographer Brigid Lally. Unlike many other surf photographers, Brigid did not discover her passion for the ocean living by the beach. She actually grew up in Manhattan and first became captivated by the sea when she started summering in Saltaire, NY. Saltaire is a quaint little beach town where cars are nonexistent, environmental transportation methods are encouraged, boardwalks are everywhere and shoes are optional.
Brigid Lally started shooting on film in high school and has been capturing beautiful and intriguing moments ever since. Throwing herself into her photography, Brigid was able to waive her wallflower tendencies and become more present and connected with the people around her. One of Brigid’s favorite ways to shoot on film is to capture singular moments exemplifying an individual’s experience. Therefore, if Brigid were to take photos of surfers in a crowded line-up, she would single out an individual and portray their experience as if that surfer was the only one in the water. She also believes in integrating creative mistakes into her style. Photos with salt water spots and odd light exposures add a unique beauty to her art.
