Just in time for Fall swells, the Santa Cruz Surf Film Festival is back for its second year in a row October 2nd – 4th, 2015 at the historic Rio theater in Santa Cruz.
Each of the festival’s three nights features a unique line-up of some of the greatest new surf shorts and feature films. All sixteen films in this year’s festival are screening for the first time in Santa Cruz County and include several US and world premieres. The first 150 attendees each night receive a bag of cool schwag and all tickets include entrance in a raffle for amazing prizes from festival sponsors.
The Friday, October 2nd opening night program includes live music by the Jolly Llamas, Santa Cruz local Kyle Buthman’s short portrait of big-wave surfer Anthony Tashnick, the world premiere of the South Korean short The Winter Surf and the feature Ocean Driven, the amazing story of 2010 Maverick’s contest winner Chris Bertish, with cast and crew members on stage for a live Q&A.
Saturday, October 3rd features two world premieres: Get Miles Away, the portrait of Canadian director Ben Gulliver (whose film The Fortune Wild won Best Short and Best Soundtrack in the 2014 festival) and the German cold-water road-trip feature film Headache. The program also includes Joe G’s high-performance world travel feature film Strange Rumblings in Shangri-La.
Sunday’s closing night screening includes the world premiere of Chris Burkard and Ben Weiland’s gorgeous Faroes: The Outpost, Vol. 02, a record of their exploration of the near-arctic Danish archipelago; the short film Gathering, Nathan Oldfield’s portrait of Dave Rastovich showing the secrets of his home break; plus, the feature film Uncharted Waters, the astonishing life story of Australian legend Wayne Lynch.
