As of Monday, September 8th, Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) has joined Jordy Smith (ZAF) and Matt Banting (AUS) and bowed out of competition at Lowers. Gilmore, who is the Women’s CT reigning champ, is also the defending champ of last year’s Swatch Women’s Pro. Gilmore was injured in May’s Oi Rio Pro and has yet to return to the elite surfing tour.
Surfing in her open space is Caroline Marks (USA), who just earned a win at the Junior Women’s event of the US Open earlier in August. Another new face to this leg of the tour is none other than new surf mama, Bethany Hamilton, who won the wild card bid from WSL.
For those set to compete, the conditions are expected to build with a promising swell on it’s way. Stay tuned for more updates on the Hurley Pro, and Swatch Women’s Pro, from all of us here at The Surf Channel.
