After the shark attack ‘heard around the world’ reached millions of eyes yesterday, Mick Fanning’s name and heroic actions have made him one of the most trending topics on the internet. Clearly, he was attacked by an aggressive shark during the final of the JBay Open event against fellow Aussie competitor, Julian Wilson, and it was a miracle he survived unharmed.
However, many media outlets are speculating on whether there were actually two sharks surrounding Fanning. At first glance, it seems that just one shark is approaching him from behind, but with a bit more evaluation, it’s possible there was one more.
According to a press release sent out by the World Surf League that was on site during the attack, there’s confirmation of two sharks that approached Fanning:
“The scene unfolded live on WorldSurfLeague.com as the Australian essentially fought off the two animals before the Water Safety Team quickly arrived and pulled both Fanning and compatriot Julian Wilson into the safety boat.” – World Surf League
At the end of the day though, one thing is for sure – Mick Fanning is alive and well.
