For the first time in professional surfing, the sport witnessed what every ocean lover fears. During the Word Surf League JBay Open competition, Mick Fanning (AUS) was attacked by two sharks during the final of the event against Julian Wilson (AUS). The WSL live webcast caught the terrifying moment in real time, while hundreds of thousands of eyes were watching.
Thankfully, Fanning walked away unscathed and lives to share the story immediately upon being rescued by water safety patrol. Event decision-makers made the call to cancel the final due to lack of safety. Watch the moment just after the shark attack happened in the video below caught on the live webcast.
