ReSurf, a nonprofit founded by Oran Bendelstein, is meant to ‘touch the lives of as many children as there are surfboards’ in underprivileged communities around the world. Old and new surfboards alike, this foundation is all about giving back.
Through community leaders and activism, ReSurf encourages children to stay in school, hit the waves, and share the stoke of surfing to as many as possible. ReSurf’s motto, “Stoked With a Purpose” is the guiding force for the foundation, sharing the joy and love of surfing to countries around the world, such as: Mexico, Israel, Jamaica, and the US.
On Thursday, July 16th, ReSurf will be hosting an evening of food, music, and positivity in a mid-summer celebration at Bird’s Surf Shed in San Diego, CA. The ReSurf Foundation is here to help children celebrate and understand the value and positivity of surfing, and to recognize the foundation’s connections with other notable nonprofits. World renowned surfers Sunny Garcia and Greg Long will be attending the fundraising event, among many others.
At the mid-summer celebration, there will be live art courtesy of Kim Kirch and Melinda Guerrero, and will showcase how the organization uses art, technology and surfing to reach kids in communities within close proximity to the ocean that are unable to surf due to a lack of resources. Fresh tacos from local food truck Simply Fresh, hand-crafted margaritas from Peligroso Tequila and cold pressed Suja Juice will accompany the world premiere of a short film about ReSurf and the launch of their recent project in Rosarito, Mexico, produced by Pierce Kavanagh, co-founder of the San Diego Surf Film Festival.
“We’re eager to show San Diego how ReSurf pays it forward to the various communities we work with across the globe. Kids are the future and it’s our mission to give them a sense of belonging and worth however we can.” said Oran Bendelstein, founder of ReSurf.
