An original Surf Channel production, INSIGHT dives into the lives of your favorite surfers to get to know them beyond the jersey. This episode features WSL Samsung Galaxy Tour surfer, Malia Manuel.
Born and raised on the island of Kauai in the small town of Wailua, Malia has been surrounded by surfing culture her entire life. Both of her parents were avid surfers, and by the time she was 2, she joined them in the lineup. At just 8-years-old, her competitive career began with entering competitions, and hasn’t slowed down yet. Since then, Malia has made a huge impression on the surf industry with her progressive style, graceful demeanor, and powerful maneuvers.
Well known as the youngest competitor to ever win a US Open of Surfing title in 2008, Malia has a list of accomplishments to support her successful career: ASP Women’s Rookie of the Year 2012, Cover of Transworld Surf Magazine 2011, International Grom Search Champion 2008, Junior Women Regional Champion 2008, 2009, 4 WQS 6 Star event wins, and many more.
