Referred to as Gerard Butler’s mentor for the Chasing Mavericks movie, San Francisco’s Grant Washburn plays many roles at the infamous big wave spot. A Mavericks veteran, a filmmaker and proud father, Washburn is kind enough to share his wave expertise with many aspiring big wave surfers. The gentle giant works with shaper Jeff Clark to make the perfect boards for heavy conditions – a 9’6” gun as his go-to for the upcoming Titans of Mavericks official competition.
A fabulous story-teller, Washburn has been both in front and behind the camera at nearly every Big Wave World Tour production. He has worked on projects such as: Chasing Mavericks, Riding Giants, and many featurettes on The Surf Channel Television Network highlighting big wave elite.
