5x ASP Women’s World Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) made history today after defeating current World Title holder Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS) in the final of the Swatch Women’s Pro, taking home a win at the first ever ASP women’s event held at Trestles. The two Australian competitors battled it out in overhead conditions at Lowers, posting scores in the excellent range.
Gilmore documented a perfect 10 to top of her history-making win, and also posted a 9.50, giving her a heat total of 19.50 over Fitzgibbons’ 14.03. Though Sally wasn’t able to claim victory at this event, her runner-up finish boosted her into the #1 position on the ASP WCT Women’s rankings.
“I wanted to get Sally back from Fiji because I had a tough performance there,” said Gilmore. “Whoever won that heat there, I thought was a definitive moment for the year.”
