Expression Session participants and their surf partners are also invited to the VIP party on Thursday night. Each team will be judged on the following:
Longest Noseride Criteria: Based off the Infamous Tom Morey Noseriding Contest of the mid 60’s, surfers will be judged and timed for how long they stay up on the front 25% of their boards. Surfer’s with the intention to compete in this criteria need to wrap a brightly colored tape around the nose of their board, a quarter of the length in from the nose. Surfer’s can ride any type of experimental equipment to help aid in the noseride. Extra points are given to anyone eating a sandwich casually while on the nose.
Most Innovative Maneuver Criteria: The surfer who pulls the most inventive and creative maneuver. It can be anything from a 540 air, to a carving cutback 360 to an el rollo on a log. Surfer’s will be judged on one maneuver and the maneuver must be completed. Surfer’s must ride out of the maneuver.
Best Iconic Surfer Impersonation Award. Did you grow up hero-worshipping Occy or Curren? Ever thought about how much fun it would be to take the piss out of Joel Tudor’s early 1990 style? This is the opportunity to pretend you are your hero and rip on your favorite surfers. Dress the part, turn with a Curren head snap, color your board like Tom Carroll’s circa 1986, bottom turn like Larry Bertleman, Wear Tattoos like Archy or Fletcher, Wear an Afro like Rob Machado circa 95, or carve like Allen Sarlo while wearing a bright yellow Bodyglove wetsuit. The best impersonation wins!
