On September 5th and 6th SurfAid will be hosting a surf competition as well as other events to raise funds to support their vision of helping build stronger communities in Nias and the Mentawai Islands, off the coast of Sumatra, Sumbawa and Sumba in Eastern Indonesia. SurfAid was founded by a group of surfers, concerned and shocked by the suffering in the Mentawai Islands. They now share a goal of improving health, wellbeing and self-reliance of people living in these isolated regions that are connected to them through surfing.
The weekend will kick off with a fun and spirited indoor cycle ride that will benefit SurfAid and an afternoon of surfing in the Expression Session. Closing the first night right at Duke’s in Malibu with food, drinks and great music by Cody Lovaas. There will be raffles and silent auctions and all proceeds will benefit the cause.
On Saturday, the SURFAID Cup will take place at Surfrider Beach in Malibu with only a handful of surfers on the lineup! The event will be ending with an after party at Casa Escobar filled with music, drinks, food and an opportunity to mingle with pro surfers.
