An original Surf Channel production, “EXPOSURE” is an ongoing series featuring the world’s most talented surf photographers. Episode 3 highlights North Shore water photographer, Doug Falter.
Hailing from Columbus, Ohio, Falter didn’t discover his love for the ocean until his early adult life when he moved to Florida for full time corporate work. Often escaping his 9-5 by making his way to the lineup, Falter developed not only a deep passion for the sport, but also a strong desire to pursue a career in ocean photography.
After a quick trip to the islands of Hawai’i, Falter decided that there was no where else he would rather be. In a leap of faith, the mainland native packed his bags and made his residency on the famed North Shore of O’ahu. In just one year of shooting, Falter was published six times by media outlets in Brazil, Japan and Australia, chosen as an editor’s pick on National Geographic, and has traveled with the Big Wave World Tour athletes through the perilous winter big wave season.
