Featuring massive waves, steep drops and gnarly wipeouts, the Red Bull Signature Series is set to broadcast the 2014 Body Glove Mavericks Invitational on Saturday, August 16 on NBC at 2:30 pm ET. The invitation-only surfing competition was held at one of the world’s most dangerous breaks, Mavericks, and the broadcast allows for viewers to catch a glimpse of 24 of the world’s best big wave surfers competing in the ultimate big wave contest.
Without risk there is no reward. Mavericks has the knack for dealing out massive beatings and lengthy hold downs that can last for up to two waves. Mad men such as Mark Healey have begun looking at this terrifying wave in a whole new direction. Deciding that traditional right at Mavericks was not challenging enough Healey thought the left barrel could score higher during this years competition. The Body Glove Mavericks Invitational is brought to a national NBC audience in partnership with Dodge Dart, Polaris RZR and GoPro. The Red Bull Signature Series is the most progressive action sports event series in the world.
