Hawaiian surfer Malia Manuel scored the highest one wave at the Vans US Open of Surfing during the women’s surfing competition, with a score of 9.63 in Round 3 at Huntington Beach. Manuel was shredding on Day 5 with a combined surfing score of 18.13, the highest heat score of the whole event.
Manuel was able to pick up some good waves, and use it to her advantage with strong snaps and a good rhythm making it difficult for her contenders to beat the heat.
Contenders Tatiana Weston-Webb with a surfing score of 10.93 and Tyler Wright with a surfing score of 7.77 still have a chance to win for the event but has to compete an extra round the following day to advance.
Manuel is known for making history as the youngest female champion to win Vans US Open at the age of 14 in 2008. She has proven to be a strong contender this year with that surfing score.
