At 3:00 pm this afternoon, a rare case of lightning hit the shoreline of Venice Beach in California striking 13 individuals. CNN reported that a man in his mid-20’s died at Marina Del Rey Hospital after being transported from Venice Beach.
“It’s too early however to determine if he died as a result of a lightning strike, drowning, or being trampled by the crowd.” The Los Angeles Fire Department was immediately on scene to assist the injured beach-goers, some in serious condition.
The National Weather Service in Los Angeles posted a message on their Twitter saying, “cloud to ground lightning” reported in nearby Marina Del Rey and at the Los Angeles International Airport.
The Weather Service recommends that beach goers stay indoors if you hear thunder until it passes.
