Calling all boardriders! July 19-20th kicks off the 23rd Annual Call to the Wall contest at the most famous right on the coast, Malibu’s First Point. Come down to Surfrider Beach this weekend to watch the top noseriders on the long right-hander, as well as shortboard heats, a paddle race, and much more.
“Call to the Wall” is an all-volunteer event, which provides a true surf vibe, the essence of tradition and surf culture.
The “Call to the Wall” is a contest that has become one of the largest invitational longboard surfing contests in the world. A two-day event, over 300 top competitors from the West Coast and Hawai’i gather to put on a radical show of cutting-edge and old-school longboard skill. “A-team” surfers from up to twenty Coalition of Surf Club member Clubs vie for top honors and bragging rights.

The Malibu Boardriders Club hosts the event to raise funds for a great cause, helping kids with special needs. Last year, 150 children and approximately 120 volunteers participated in the beach day. Campers have the chance to participate in tandem surfing, boogie boarding, kayaking, and other fun beach activities with many of the Malibu Boardrider volunteers.
The “Day at the Beach” is hosted by the Malibu Boardriders and Ride a Wave Foundation – creating special days for kids with special needs – and is provided free of charge.
Over the year,s the Club has managed to provide support to many community programs and events including; hosting the Tommy Zahn Memorial Paddle Race, the adoption of Westward Beach for clean-up, adopting the Marine Science Lab at the Pt Dume Marine Science School, support for Heal the Bay on Coastal clean-up day, support of the L.A. County Dept. of Beaches and Harbors WATER program for under-privileged kids, support for California State Parks through beach wheelchair access and restoration of the Pt Dume Headlands and support for the Marine and Mountain Wildlife rescue program.
In early 1992, a group of Malibu surfers founded the Malibu Boardriders Surf Club, a group of surfers that believe groups can do great good. The impetus for the formation was to provide an energetic vehicle to mesh the surf-culture with other community elements. As a club, they spread the “stoke” associated with surfing through promotion of community events, stewardship of the local environment and mentoring kids in a sports setting.
The Malibu Boardriders are dedicated to community, charity, water, surf and the cornerstone of the club – “Ride with Tradition”.
