As the old saying goes, one man’s ruined 4th of July beach party is another man’s perfect day of surfing. Just in time for the traffic jams, overcrowded parties, and drunken debauchery, Tropical Storm Arthur is gracing its presence along the east coast. Many patriotic Americans will be forced to cancel their travel plans, barbeque on their stovetops, and trade their sparklers in for lava lamps. For surfers on the east coast, however, this may be the best celebration yet, with less crowded beaches and potentially high surf.
ABC News predicts North Carolina to be hit the hardest with rough surf, coastal floods, and 80+ mph winds. The tropical storm is already on the move north and is likely to see the largest swell on Fourth of July. Hurricane warnings have been in place, so be careful whatever you choose to do over the weekend.
