The 2014 ESPY Award nominees have been released and along with names like Floyd Mayweather, Christiano Ronaldo, and Richard Sherman are two world-class professional surfers. Carissa Moore and Grant “Twiggy” Baker have been nominated for the Best Female and Male Action Sports Athlete award, respectively, both coming off huge years in their careers to earn a spot as the only surfers to be up for one of the most prized award in sports.
Grant “Twiggy” Baker has been an established name in big wave surfing for many years and is “stoked” to be nominated for an ESPY award along with four other huge names in Action Sports including skateboarding’s Nyjah Huston and Olympic gold medalist skier David Wise. By winning the 2014 Maverick Invitational and the Punta Galea Challenge, Baker locked up the title for the 2013-2014 Big Wave World Tour as well as a Surfline Best Overall Performance Award.
Recent Surfers Hall of Fame Inductee, Carissa Moore is in the midst of looking for a repeat of her 2013 ASP Women’s World Championship Title. Halfway though the 2014 season, she is currently in the lead for her third World Championship, with two event wins under her belt. The 21 year old is up against olympic and X-game medalists in her hopes to win her first ever ESPY award.
