Legendary surfer Shaun Tomson is teaming up with the San Diego based nonprofit Boys to Men Mentoring Network to promote this year’s 100 Wave Challenge fundraiser. Tomson will be speaking at the 100 Wave Challenge Kick Off BBQ on Wednesday, June 25th from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Bird’s Surf Shed in San Diego.
On Saturday, September 20th, hundreds of surfers will hit the water in Mission Beach to support the Boys to Men mentoring program. The goal is for each surfer to raise $1,000 and catch 100 waves in 12 hours. There will be sections in the waves for longboarders, shortboarders, bodyboarders, stand up paddleboarders, and body surfers. Please join and take the challenge. Whether it takes you 4 hours or 12 hours, you will have left the water having made a difference in the lives of young kids. Learn more about the fundraising event here.
Come down to the BBQ tonight to support a great cause and sign up for the main event!
The prizes for raising money are as follows:
$1,000 – Quiksilver watch with wave counting feature
$3,000 – New wetsuit from Bird’s Surf Shed
$5,000 – New surfboard from Bird’s Surf Shed
$7,500 – New surfboard and wetsuit
All proceeds are donated to the Boys to Men mentoring program, which is a community based mentoring model serving middle school boys age 11-14, and high school boys age 15-17 identified by school administration to be at-risk of educational failure, dropping out of school, juvenile delinquency or gang-related offenses.
