International Surfing Day is hosted by the nonprofit organization, Surfrider Foundation, which is dedicated to protecting and promoting the ocean and coastal environments through a powerful activist network. Join the Surfrider Foundation to help celebrate the ocean and promote clean marine environments on June 20th and check out some more upcoming events on the calendar to take your ocean dedication to the next level!

Friday, June 20th – 10th Annual International Surfing Day – Ocean Beach, SD
(on the grassy area between Veterans Plaza and the Santa Monica lifeguard station).
Come enjoy a family-friendly day at the beach. The Surfrider foundation booth will be set up from 3-7pm. The day includes free group surf lessons starting at 3pm and 4pm (limited space!), local surfboard shapers will showcase their products, and once the sun sets there will be a screening of the classic surf movie, The Endless Summer, to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The night will include a raffle, free popcorn, and drinks!
Saturday, June 21st – Carlsbad – Environmentally Friendly Gardening
Join us from 9am-12pm! There are only a few spots left for our free Ocean Friendly Gardens Hands On Workshops on We’ll discuss water savings and pollution reduction, as we create an Ocean Friendly Garden on a residential property. Take part in this fun and interactive workshop and learn how to reduce pollution levels at our local beaches.
Sunday, June 22nd – Kick off Summer at Tavern – Pacific Beach, SD
From 3-5 pm, FM949 will be broadcasting live onsite, there will be live music, a raffle which will include a Leinenkugel’s stand up paddle board, and $2 Summer Shandy’s with all the proceeds benefiting our mission to protect our oceans, waves, and beaches here in San Diego County.
Wednesday, June 25th – Take your Advocacy to the Next Level!
Join us for advocacy training 101 to learn how to make a bigger impact on the keeping the ocean a clean environment. This training will give you tools and resources to bring your advocacy to the next level. (Attending one of our Core Volunteer Orientations is a prerequisite to this course. If you have not been through the Core Volunteer Orientation yet, don’t fret because Advocacy 101 will be offered again this year)
Wednesday, June 25th – Encourage City of Encinitas to Ban Plastic Bags!
Join us at 6pm at Encinitas City Hall (505 S Vulcan Ave) as the City of Encinitas will decide whether to move forward with a Single Use Plastic Bag Ordinance and an EPS (Styrofoam) Ban.
Thursday, June 26th – Participate in Rise Above Plastics Day!
Stations will be set up in various locations in the San Diego area from 5-8pm spreading awareness about single-use plastics, getting petition signatures, and handing out free reusable bags (while supplies last). Find out more information here.
Sunday, June 29th – Volunteer for the Pacific Beach Ashcan Revitalization Project
Join our Hold On To Your Butt (HOTYB) committee from 9am-1pm as we revitalize our ash cans in Pacific Beach, replace dilapidated stickers, and install new ones. Sign up here.

Saturday, July 5th – Help Clean the Beach after 4th of July festivities
Join us for our annual Morning After Mess cleanup series from 8-11am and help us help the beaches after the 4th of July!
We will be hosting cleanups at the Ocean Beach Pier, Belmont Park in Mission Beach, Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach and the Oceanside Harbor. We’ve got some incredible prizes this year too! – No pre-registration necessary. Minors will need a parent or legal guardian to sign for them.
Sunday, July 6th – Beach Walk led by Veteran Surfrider Foundation Activist, Jim Jaffee
Join us for a Beach Walk and learn how armoring affects the coast on Sunday, July 6th from 10-11am. We’ll meet at the restrooms at Fletcher Cove in Solana Beach.
Wednesday, July 16 – Learn About the Surfer Health History
Join us for our next quarterly chapter meeting from 6:30-8:30pm at the Karl Strauss Brewery Tasting Room, located at 5985 Santa Fe Street. Guests will receive one free taster courtesy of Karl Strauss and pizza from Woodstock’s Pizza. This meeting will be focused on Beach Water Quality and the Surfer Health Study.
