The Southern Hemi’s big wave season is upon us. Anticipation is building as red alerts flag South Africa as a possibility for XXL wave heights. Take a glance at the storm graphs, and it’s clear that energy is high and growing steadily. There have recently been several strong swells popping up on the map heading right for Cape Town, the southwestern tip of the African continent.
Now with Dungeons on the ASP Big Wave World Tour, the dangerous spot is due to blow up in the near future…
If the forecast calls for 30 ft+ wave faces with favorable winds, the conditions may line up for a possible event call in the coming weeks.
There has not yet been an official call for the Dungeons Challenge off Cape Town, but keep your eyes on the approaching swells as big wave surfers make a pitmove chasing the world’s largest and most challenging waves.
Now under ASP’s jurisdiction, there are rumors of three competitor spots available for the World Championship Tour surfers, which may just mean you see Kelly Slater (USA) or John John Florence (HAW) in the lineup.
An official competitor list has not yet been released.
