Life Rolls On will host their first “They Will Surf Again” event of the year on May 17th in Santa Monica, California. With the help of volunteers, Life Rolls On is able to use surf days to ’empower paraplegics and quadriplegics to experience the freedom of mobility by riding a wave with the assistance of adaptive equipment.’
Life Rolls On is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by paralysis. In 1996, Jesse Billauer, a well-known surfer from Pacific Palisades, California, suffered a severe injury that resulted in quadriplegia. Instead of letting his injury hold him back, Billauer found a way to continue surfing and created Life Rolls On to help others do the same.
In 2004, Billauer merged with “They Will Surf Again”, an organization supported by Kelly Slater and Rob Machado. Together, they have expanded the event “They Will Surf Again” to seven cities across five different states. The organization has also created the programs “They Will Skate Again” and “They Will Ski Again.” Check out the Life Rolls On website to volunteer for the Santa Monica event or sign up as a surfer.
